Better Visibility for Images Through SEO

Suppose you run a photo blog or an online photo gallery. The site has a vast number of images with varying resolutions, covering a field of subjects specific to the photographer’s specialty. To help more people see and appreciate your works, a little SEO work is needed.

For starters, you need to change the filename of the image you will upload. Many digital camera brands have letters to identify the images, such as DCIM and DSC, followed by numbers. They must be changed to something that best describes the image.

Alt tags should be part of the image’s HTML code, which partly helps the site climb higher in the search results list. However, the tag itself should not have multiple keywords. It will also help to assign unique alt tags for every shot of the same product. However, any decorative image you use for the post must have no alt tags lest you reap over-optimization penalties.

Make sure your posts have specific focus and the keywords and alt tags match it. If you are tackling a new topic in the future, plan the right keywords to use. As for image size, remember to edit the file size to help it upload faster.
